Who are we? 

The Parish of Mungret, Crecora and Raheen is a parish in the Catholic Diocese of Limerick. The parish address is Parish Office, Millennium Centre, Raheen, Limerick V94 ED2C.

The Parish Priest/Administrator/Moderator is the data controller for the parish; in other words he is the person responsible for making sure your data is safe and secure.  

 

Your personal data – what is it?

Personal data is information relating to a living individual who can be identified from that data.  Identification can be through the information alone or in conjunction with other information in the data controller’s possession or likely to come into such possession.  The Parish complies with its obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) by keeping personal data up to date; by storing and destroying it securely; by not collecting or retaining excessive amounts of data; by protecting personal data from loss, misuse, unauthorised access and disclosure and by ensuring that appropriate technical measures are in place to protect personal data.

 

Who does this Privacy Notice apply to?

This Privacy Notice applies to everyone who donates to the parish using the Tap2Donate device and consents to provide their personal data such as name, telephone number, email address and donation amount to the parish on this device.  

 

What is the lawful basis for processing your personal data?

The GDPR & Data Protection Act, 2018 require the data controller to specify the lawful basis for processing personal data.  Below are the lawful bases which are relevant to these processing activities:-

  • You have provided consent by completing the relevant sections on the Tap2Donate device.
  • Legitimate interests – if you provide your contact details, the parish will contact you to see if you wish to participate in the Charitable Donation Scheme.
  • Compliance with a legal obligation eg Revenue Commissioner requirements for the Charitable Donation Scheme.

 

What personal data do we process?

The parish will process some or all of the following types of data:-

  • Name;
  • Contact details – telephone number and email address;
  • Where you make a financial donation, we will have your bank identifiers such as account number, payment/transaction identifier;
  • The amount you donate and the parish where the donation is made;
  • Where you consent to participate in the Charitable Donations Scheme – will we also process your PPSN.

 

How does the Parish process personal information?

We use your personal data for certain purposes including the following:-

  • To enable us to meet all legal and statutory obligations; 
  • To fundraise and promote the interests of the parish and process donations; (These may include information about campaigns, appeals or other fund-raising activities);
  • To maintain our own accounts and records;
  • To contact you in relation to the Charitable Donation Scheme (see next paragraph).

 

Charitable Donation Scheme (the “Scheme”)

If your donation is above the amount of €250 per year, the parish will contact you regarding the Scheme.  The Scheme allows charities to claim a refund of tax paid on donations where an individual has donated over €250 per year.  If the parish contacts you for this purpose, they will request your consent to reclaim tax back on your donations pursuant to the Scheme. In order for the parish to include your donations in the Scheme, they will require you to complete certain Revenue forms which are currently called an Annual Certificate (CHY4 form) or Endurance Certificate (CHY3T form), which is valid for 5 years.  This application cannot be made without the parish contacting you.

 

Sharing your personal data
Your personal data will be treated confidentially and we will only share your data with third parties outside the parish with your consent, as permitted under data protection laws, or if we are legally required to do so.  Your data may be shared with the Diocese for administrative purposes and to comply with legal reqiurements.

 

How long do we keep your personal data?
We keep your personal data only for as long as we need and in line with the Parish retention policy.  For example, we retain finance records for up to 7 years. 

 

Your rights and your personal data  

Unless subject to an exemption under the GDPR you have the following rights with respect to your personal data: -

  • The right to withdraw your consent as consent is the legal basis your data has been collected in this instance.
  • The right to request a copy of your personal data which the Parish holds.
  • The right to request that the Parish corrects any personal data if it is found to be inaccurate or out of date. 
  • The right to request your personal data be erased where it is no longer necessary for the Parish to retain such data.
  • The right to data portability – you can request that the Parish transfer your data directly to another data controller.
  • The right to object to the processing of personal data.
  • The right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission.

 

When exercising any of the above rights and, in order to facilitate your request, we may need to verify your identification for security.  In such cases we will need you to respond with proof of your identity before you can exercise these rights.  

 

Transfer of Data Abroad

We do not transfer this personal data abroad.  

 

Review & Amendment

This Privacy Notice explains our policy for the parish relating to the Tap2Donate function and some related activities.  We reserve the right to review and amend this at any time without notice.  This was last reviewed in November 2025.
