Crecora National School

We are a state of the art  rural co-educational, primary school where the child is at the centre of  his/her education.

Currently, we have almost 230 children, 15 teachers, 2 special needs assistants, a school secretary and a caretaker.  We are under the patronage of the Catholic Church and the sacraments of Communion and Confirmation form an integral part of our religious instruction. However, we warmly welcome people of other faiths and cultures to our school also.

We employ many methodologies in our teaching and strive to develop all aspects of the children in our care. We deliver the core curriculum as laid down by the Department of Education and Skills and engage in many literacy and numeracy initiatives such as CAPER (shared reading) , Literacy Lift Off, Building Bridges to Comprehension, Brain Snack and CAME ( a thinking maths skills programme).  We also participate in many cross curricular programmes such as the Junior Entrepreneur Programme and earned our first JEP flag in 2013.  2013 also saw us being awarded our first Discovery Primary Maths and Science award.

We try to make children aware of the underprivileged and take part in a programme called  Irish Aid, where we  achieved regional winner status in 2013.  Fundraising for Trocaire,  Focus Ireland,  Haiti, Bóthar, Team Hope also helps to raise children’s social awareness. Every November we also fund raise for Multiple Sclerosis Ireland and we have been involved in the Dear Grace Competitions in the past.

We place great importance in sport within our school and we participate in all hurling, camogie and football competitions under the auspices of Cumann na mBunscoil organization. We have been East and County champions on a number of occasions throughout our seventy six year history. We also participate in the Limerick School Sports in May each year and both our boys and girls perform at a very high standard. Cycling School Mid-West provide cycling tuition to third class each year and all our pupils are provided with  swimming lessons as part of the PE curriculum. There are strong links with our local community and members of the local GAA and the ICA organisations help with the teaching of sport and art and craft respectively.

A love of music is also cultivated within the school and the school participates in the Peace proms Choir event.  Tin Whistle is taught within the school and the children are encouraged to play instruments at sacramental and school celebrations throughout the year.

The value of languages is respected within the school and great effort goes into promoting the Irish language. As part of a Modern Language Initiative, we teach Spanish within the school to the senior classes.

We have a very supportive and active Parents’ Council who are instrumental in organizing our varied range of after school activities.  Currently, these include Speech and Drama, Irish dancing, German and Art.

We believe the school should be a useful resource  for the  local community and many of these groups avail of our premises, including the ICA, the GAA,  the Camogie Club,  the Brownies,  Parents’ Council and Sacramental committees.  It is also used for yoga classes, karate classes, and Ceoltas workshops.
